                         When the nation didn’t care at all for the message of Gautam,

                         When it didn’t appreciate the worth of the rare pearl,

                         Alas! The unfortunate remained uninformed of the message of God,

                         The tree remains uninformed of the sweetness of its fruits,

                         He disclosed what was the secret of life,

                         But India boasted of its imaginery philosophy,

                         This was not the society to be lighted by the lamp of truth,

                         Rain of God’s mercy fell but the land was not absorbing,

                         Alas! India is a land of sorrows for the Shudras,

                         Heart of this population is indifferent to the human pain,

                         The Brahmin is dead-drunk with the wine of high-mindedness,

                         The torch of Gautam is burning in the foreign land,

                         But again the land of the deighties became lighted after a long time,

                         Light of Abraham lit the house of an idol-worshipper,

                        Again, at last the voice of tawheed rose from the Punjab,*

                        A pious man awakened India from the deep sleep.
